Shakeology – Not Your Average Meal Replacement Shake


I wrote about Shakeology when I first staShakeologyrted drinking it. I had heard about it about a year before I actually tried it and had even done some research on it. I had known that it provided all my recommended servings for the day of  fruits and vegetables in just one shake. That was about all I knew though. I thought to myself  at the time it was something I would like to try, but at that time the price was just not something I thought I could do or was willing to do. Fast forward to today and I can’t see myself not starting my day without a glass of Shakeology.

Skeptical By Nature

I by nature am a very skeptical person. I just don’t believe something unless I have proof that what is being said is in fact the truth. Over the years I have been told I need to be taking protein shakes and all these various supplements, but I would always refuse them. The main reason was I would pick up the bag or box and start to read the ingredients. I would start to come across words I had no clue what they were for.  If I pick up a box of something and I don’t know how to even say a word that is listed under the ingredients I am not going to be putting that in my body. Not only that I have read and heard about how certain shakes say they have so much protein in them but it is not pure. It inflated with fillers and is synthetic.  I have read time and time again that your body really does not need that much protein. If you are eating a balanced diet you get enough. Now if you are training really hard you may need extra and a protein shake can make it pretty easy compared to cooking up a bunch of chicken to get that protein into your system. The point I am making is I don’t put products in my body just because someone tells me they are healthy.

My Path To Shakeology

With Shakeology I was still skeptical. I had watched the videos and I had read information about it. I really liked the idea of getting all my fruits and vegetables in one shake. I personally have a horrible time getting all my recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. I was the kid that would only eat carrots, cucumbers, peas, corn, and if you were lucky green beans. Salads did not exist in my diet period. It was not until I got older when I started eating salads and not because I wanted to, but because I knew they were good for me. Fruit though has never been a problem. I have always enjoyed eating all kinds of different fruits. Through out my twenties and up until recently I knew I was not getting enough vegetables into my diet. When I would get home from work I would cook my dinner, but the vegetables never seemed to make it to the plate. It was always to big of a hassle for me to make a salad. I just never wanted to do it and I still to be honest with you struggle with that to this day. Not only that vegetables go bad. I can’t tell you how many vegetable I have had to throw away because I could not eat them in time. What a waste of food and money wouldn’t you say.

Aware that I needed to start getting more veggies in my diet I started by trying to drink V8. I bought the drink and ended up throwing it out because I just could not stand it. Yuck! My next attempt at trying to get more veggies into my diet was V8 Fusion. V8 now had a fruit drink that had vegetables in it so I gave that one a try. I have to say I liked this a lot because it tasted good. It did not taste like the normal V8, but more like fruit juice. I don’t really know why I stopped getting V8 Fusion but at some point I did.

At this point I was still trying to figure out a way to get my daily servings of vegetables into my diet. I had thought about getting a juicer because I had seen Jack Lalanne promoting his juicer on an infomercial. On the infomercial he was talking about how great juicing was for me. He was saying it was actually easier on the digestive system because juice could pass right into the blood stream without having to be digested first. I almost bought one on that day but for some reason I did not. This did plant a seed though and I went and started looking at juicers. I made up my mind that this would be a way for me to get more vegetables into my diet and asked for one for my birthday. I did end up getting a juicer for my birthday. As soon as I got it home I was juicing. I tried juicing all kinds of things.  My favorite was carrot with apple and orange juice. The juice it produced was really good but the problem was I still was not getting the greens into my diet. I tried doing spinach and it would take like a bag of spinach to get a half of glass. I tried juicing celery and I hated it. Juicing was expensive too. I had to buy all these fruits and veggies to make a little bit of juice. Also it was a pain to clean up. I would continue to juice for awhile but eventually started looking for an easier way to get my veggies.

My next attempt at getting enough fruits and veggies into my diet came about after talking to another teacher at my work. She said she started her day with a shake she made. She would put Spinach, Orange Juice and a Banana together and blend it up. She told me that she did not even taste the Spinach. When I learned about this I raced back home to try it. Sure enough I did not even taste the Spinach. I was amazed and felt great getting more Spinach into my diet. I started to experiment with other types of foods. Eventually I would start making my own smoothies, I now realize that it cost probably about the same as Shakeology does and did not have half the nutrition. I was drinking these smoothies for about a year. Everyday I would wake up and make one. I still knew I was not getting enough fruits and veggies, mostly veggies into my diet.

Becoming A Beachbody Coach Got Me To Try Shakeology

It was not until I became a Beachbody Coach back at the beginning of April 2012 that I finally got to try Shakeology. I was very excited about it. When I first tried Shakeology I did not think it tasted bad. I did not know what to expect really. I did notice that after a week I had way more energy. I was not getting the feeling I would get at around 2 pm anymore. You know the one that hits you right after eating lunch where you just want to take a nap. In fact I had tons of energy and on top of that I was feeling full. I was amazed by this because there is only about 150 calories in a glass of Shakeology.

I just love knowing I am getting all my fruits and veggies for the day in one shake. Anything else I have on top of that is just a bonus. For me Shakeology is the perfect product. It has made it very simple and convenient to get in all these foods into my diet. On top of that I ran the cost of my old smoothie I used to make and a bag of Shakeology and I was actually spending more on my smoothie. For me it just makes sense to add Shakeology to my diet.

When I first tried Shakeology I will be honest I figured I would try it for a month and keep getting it until I was able to get enough product value from having customers buy it then stop it. I feel great and I don’t want to stop drinking it. Also the more I learn about it the more I am amazed by Shakeology.

This website I am going to share with you has absolutely no affiliation with Shakeology. Also I have not watched this movie yet, but I have seen the trailer. I was introduced to this by someone I play beach volleyball with. He was telling me how what you eat can reverse cancer or prevent it, reverse diabetes or prevent it and it really got me interested. I am pretty sure you know somebody that has had one of these diseases at some point. For me personally my grandfather died of  cancer when I was just 9 years old. I have been reading about Superfoods and if you don’t know Shakeology is loaded with Superfoods. It is one of the things that separates Shakeology from the competition. No other meal replacement shake has what Shakeology has. I have been researching this believe me. There are some that have some of the ingredients, but none that I have found have what Shakeology has.

Wheat grass is super alkalizing and is excellent for promoting healthy blood. It normalizes the thyroid gland to stimulate metabolism thus assisting digestion and promoting weight loss due also to its high enzyme content and cleansing effect.
  • Barley grass – Barley grass has 11 times more calcium than cows milk, 5 times more iron than spinach and 7 times more Vitamin C and bio-flavonoids than orange juice. It contains significant amounts of Vitamin B12 which is very important in a vegetarian diet. Barley grass juice has anti-viral activities and neutralizes heavy metals such as mercury in the blood.
  • Spirulina – Spirulina is a cultivated micro-algae which has been consumed for thousands of years by the indigenous peoples in Mexico and Africa. It is one of the highest known protein sources on Earth and contains 70% complete protein, towering over steak which consists of only 25% protein once cooked. Studies have shown that spirulina can help control blood sugar levels and cravings thus making it a key food for diabetics, and can be used to assist in weight loss and as a general nutritional supplement.
  • Chlorella – Chlorella is a fresh water algae and like its other algae cousins contains a complete protein profile, all the B vitamins, vitamin C and E and many minerals. It is amazing for the immune system and for reducing cholesterol and preventing the hardening of the arteries, a precursor to heart attacks and strokes.
  • Goji Berries – Goji berries are grown on vines in the protected valleys of inner Mongolia and Tibet. These distinctively flavoured red berries are a very rich source of vitamin C, having 500 times more vitamin C per ounce than oranges and actually more than any other fruit. They are a superb source of vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E and contain a full complement of protein with 18 amino acids and 21 trace minerals. Most of all they are an excellent antioxidant making it an ideal natural whole food for reversing aging and protecting against disease.
  • Raw Cacao  (This is in the Vegan Chocolate Shakeology)-  Raw cacao beans contain possibly the world’s most concentrated source of antioxidants found in any food. They also extremely high in magnesium which has been found to be the most common deficient major mineral even following a balanced diet. For those concerned with not getting enough iron it should be pleasing to know that one small 28 gram serving of raw cacao beans gives 314% of the recommended daily allowance of iron. And if that is not enough raw cacao beans have an antioxidant (ORAC) score of 95,500. To put that into perspective, that is 14 times more flavonoids (antioxidants) than red wine and 21 times more than green tea.
  • Acai – Acai berries have long been a part of the staple diet of the tribes in the Amazon. With the appearance of a purple grape and taste of a tropical berry it has been shown to have powerful antioxidant properties thanks to a high level of anthocyanins, pigments also found in red wine. The ORAC rating of acai is 1,027.
  • Maca – Maca powder is from the Maca root, a flavorful ancient superfood from Peru. Maca has been cultivated for at least 2000 years and was consumed by Inca warriors to increase strength and endurance. It is a highly nutritious food that has been used traditionally to gain energy, promote sexual desire, support fertility and enhance immune system function. It continues today to be a significant staple food and medicinal plant for the Peruvian people and is now widely available around the world as a whole food supplement.

The list above is only a small sample of the 70+ healthy ingredients found in Shakeology. I have not even began talking about the Whey Protein (Isolate) the probiotics and the macro nutrients and micro-nutrients that are found in Shakeology. I think it is pretty clear that Shakeology is the healthiest meal of the day. And for about $4.00 a serving that is a real bargain. Remember Shakeology is a meal replacement so it can replace a meal.
