Habits Can Be Changed

HabitsWhen the time comes for you to make a life changing decision to change bad habits there is a battle that you will need to fight if you want to change your bad habits.  If your way of life has lacked in being physically active and your diet consist of mainly fast food and microwave dinners this is going to be a tough fight.  This is a fight with bad habits that you can win though. Your fight with bad habits is going to require a shift in your thinking. You are going to have to change your eating habits and exercise habits and stay committed to doing it. It is not going to be easy, but nothing that is worth anything in life is every easy.

How Long Does It Take New Habits To Form?

According to a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology  Phillippa Lally found that it took about 66 days for a new habit to form. What does this mean to you? It means you can form a new habit in just over 2 months. Also he says that if you miss a day it is not detrimental to forming the new habit. Starting an exercise routine and eating a healthy diet is a lifestyle change because you are changing your life. You are changing your entire attitude for the better.  Exercise is now going to become something you no longer fight with, but actually enjoy. Fast food is going to stop tasting good because you are going to be eating food that is good for you. You will have more energy, your confidence will increase because you will be looking better and feeling better.

In the article, How to Form a Good Habit there are 9 habit changing strategies. If you are still on the fence about exercising and eating healthy remember this. Life avoiding a battle is no life at all because there is never going to be victory. When you decide to stop avoiding the battle and make the decision to change your life for the better, the only regret you will have is you did not do it sooner.

So make a decision to change your bad habits to good habits today. If you start today you will have rid yourself of that bad habit in about 2 months time. To me I think it is pretty amazing that we have the power to change our lives for the better and it only takes 2 months time. Now yes you will have setbacks, because this is just part of the normal process. Very few of us can just stop doing something they have been doing for years and years. As long as you realize that you are in a process of change you will be going in the right direction.

Most importantly don’t quit. If you quit you will never over come this enemy that is a bad habit. You can form a good habit just as easily as you formed a bad habit. So start forming good habits starting right now.

  1. It truly is all about mindset. Being a former smoker it’s after the first three days when the real work come into play. Having the will and determination to get things done, to move past petty challenges and rise above is what counts the most. I love this, and that in two months, or less you can have a dream conquered. It all lies within ourselves.
