Are You Eating All Your Fruits and Vegetables?

When it comes to most people eating all their fruits and vegetables, I would have to say most people do not. I know I am one of those people even though I try hard to get them all in. One of the problems with eating fruits and vegetables is it is just to expensive. Have you ever tried buying fresh produce? It is not cheap and you end up spending a lot of money before you even leave the store. What if you just don’t like fruits and vegetables? I know there are those people out there. For me personally this happens to be true. I am not a big fan of vegetables. I will eat almost any fruit without hesitation, but when it comes to vegetables forget it. As we all know or should know by now is that eating leafy greens is good for us. I am not going to go into all the benefits of eating them right now, but do a simple search on Google to learn about eating fruits and vegetables and if you don’t already know you will know just how good they are for you. So let me do a quick recap.

  1. Most people do not get enough fruits and vegetables in their diet.

  2. Buying all the fruits and vegetables you need to eat is expensive.

  3. What if you just don’t like eating fruits and vegetables?

Fruits and Vegetables

Alright so I have listed 3 reasons why most people don’t get enough fruits and vegetables in their diets. Now I am going to write about a couple more. Not only is it expensive, but fruits and vegetables do not have a long shelf life because after all fruits and vegetables are  real food, the kind our bodies were designed to consume and does not come in a package. (By the way, if you want to get healthy and lose weight you should not be eating processed foods, but you knew that already right!) Ok, back to the topic at hand. So fruits and vegetables do not have a long shelf life. A lot of the time you will end up throwing them out before you can eat them. What a waste of food, not to mention money. I know for me personally this pisses me off. I mean you spend all this money buying produce and when you go to eat it its gone bad. If you don’t like going to the store frequently like me then this just plainly sucks. Now for the next point. If you are like me you don’t like preparing fruits and vegetables. Remember I told you that I can eat fruits no problem, but veggies are not so easy. So this is another problem for me at least. I don’t want to take the time to prepare them. Think about all the time and energy it takes to make a salad.  Lets assume you just bought the already washed and bagged salad. First you have to take the salad out of the bag and put in a bowl. Then depending on what you want on your salad, you have to wash and cut up all that stuff. Now I know it is not really that big a deal, but for me personally it is a pain. I am already making dinner and now I have to do extra work to make the salad, well its just too time consuming and I would rather not do it.

So lets go over the other two reasons why many people don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables.

  1. The short shelf life of fruits and vegetables (spoilage factor)

  2. The time it takes to prepare fruits and vegetables

Now I am sure I could list way more reasons why people don’t eat enough fruits and vegetables, but I feel I have provided some pretty solid reasons. Now if only there was a convenient way for us to be able to eat all our fruits and vegetables. That would be great right! I mean if you did not have to pay a ton of money, didn’t have to worry about having to throw your fruits and vegetables away due to spoilage, it didn’t take a long time to prepare, and it actually tasted like something you liked, you would probably want it right! I know I would be interested because this would solve many of my problems.

The good news:

There is some!

I will be writing all about this in my next post.  So make sure you come back and read all about it.  Now I don’t know about you, but knowing that there is a product where I can get my fruits and vegetables (A salad bowl worth offruits and vegetables in one serving  to be exact) that would get me very excited. Just think how much easier it would be to get these important foods into your diet. Make sure you check back soon because I will be writing all about how you can make eating all your fruits and vegetables a reality.

  1. I like fruits and vegetables but, if we listen to the RDA recommendations, we’re supposed to have, what, like 9 servings or something. That’s a lot to eat! Looking forward to your solution on this.

  2. I need to definately eat more fruits and vegetable! Thanks for this article, it maked me think a little more about ways to get my daily allowance in. No excuses, right? If you think about it, fruits and veggies are low calorie, but can curb your appetite! I need to get on this!

  3. I love fruit and most veggies, the thing is if I eat too much it makes my stomach hurt. Kinda hard to get all that food and be balanced. Especially if you’re drinking the recommended amount of water too! Other than drinking Shake-o I don’t have a clue how else to tackle this.
